Habitat
Black Marlin are a free-roaming pelagic. They tend to follow the warm currents and the bait fish that travel along them. A highly prized game fish they are available right down the east and west coasts of Australia. Many game fishing anglers suspect the big fish inhabit deeper offshore trenches year round. The largest known aggregation of giant black marlin is around th Great Barrier Reef north of Cairns.

Hints
Giant black marlin of 500kg are taken trolling large baits well offshore. Smaller blacks, around 100 kg, are regularly taken closer inshore. Boat anglers troll large skirted lures, bibless minnows or whole fish baits, either dead or alive.
