Habitat
Sooty grunter inhabit coastal and inland freshwaters from central Qld. northwards to across the top end of Australia to the Kimberley region. They prefer the shallows of river banks near sunken timber and snags, overhanging foliage, corners in banks and holes and are usually found in good numbers.
Qualities
The fish is a scrappy fighter offering good sport on light tackle.

Hints
Moving bait provides good results. Drift or walk the banks of tropical freshwater rivers casting into likely haunts. Fish deep holes, shallow rapids or snaggy areas.
