Habitat
Ox-eye Herring or tarpon inhabit the tropical waters of Australia from north N.S.W. around the top end to north W.A. They are a school fish found in bays, inlets, estuaries, rivers and creeks often into the fresh water regions. The juvenile fish are more commonly found in shallow waters whereas the adults prefer the deeper reaches.

A very active and fast fish providing a hard fight combined with aerobatics once hooked.

Hints
Best fishing is lure casting with small feather tailed jigs. Larger fish will take small plugs and surface poppers. Use very sharp hooks as they have a very hard bony mouth & are able to throw the hooks easily. Caution is required when landing the fish due to the hard mouth they can easily throw a hook.
