Hints
Flathead are a bottom dweller feeding both day and night. They can be located in the shallows and flats at high tide and at low tide the fish will move to deeper water allowing spinning of the gutters and channels. Flathead will usually rise no more than 1m to retrieve a lure in shallow waters. Sand flathead prefer shallow marine waters of 15 - 25m depth but have been found in depths up to 65m. They also like weed free sand or mud bottoms. For sand flathead or in sandy areas the fish prefer a moving or drifted bait. For a newly flooding tide flick strips of fresh fish over the shallow edges of a gutter. Continue to search likely spots until the school is found. Fish localize in numbers early in morning.
