The focus has shifted from Snapper to sharks this week with many anglers taking advantage of the fine weekend weather by heading offshore.
INVERLOCH
Luke Lewis had his hands full on the weekend when he landed a 120 kilo Shortfin Mako shark while fishing between the Cody Bank and Cape Patterson. He also landed a forty kilo mako with both fish taking couta baits.
WOOLAMAI
Brian Rinaldi and Rick Torelli fished offshore in 70 meters of water on Saturday and literally had a day out. Apart from the seals and dolphins they saw, the boys also landed a forty kilo Blue shark and had the monster mako to the boat. Brian said that a mako of between 200 – 300 kilos swam up the berley trail but refused to take a bait. It entertained the boys for ten minutes before casually gliding off into the depths.
Other reports indicate excellent numbers of flathead, Barber Perch and pick handle Barracouta from the 35 metre line.
WELL DONE ANDREW
Ten year old Andrew Manneken caught the fish of his life on Sunday while fishing with his dad off Punchbowl Rocks in 64 metres of water. Andrew’s couta bait screamed off and saw a battle that lasted 15 minutes. Finally the young bloke landed a Blue shark of 30 kilos that I weighed for him later that day. He was so excited that he was hugging the fish while it hung on the scales. Now that is quality!
WHITING
Rex, Thommo and Lee fished from Hastings on Saturday and managed a beautiful bag of King George Whiting after moving from Dickies Bay through the Tortoise Bank. Hopefully this is just a sign of things to come in the new year.
WARNEET
Customers Johan and Jenson found success while out with work mate Geeza from Warneet on the weekend. The boys were fishing in 19 metres of water on the low tide when they picked up a ten kilo Gummy Shark which I weighed for them later that day.
The pier has also provided anglers with success this week. Customers Brad and Craig fished the pier one evening for eight King George Whiting ranging 38 – 39 cm. Wow! Well done boys. Pippies were the best bait and don’t forget the Bushman as the sandflies have been NASTY.
CARRUM
The Snapper have slowed a little for some anglers but that didn’t stop Mark Otton from landing a beautiful 6.5 kilo red on Saturday. I weighed the fish for him and must say that it was one of the coolest looking Snapper I have seen all season. It was taken in 17 metres of water.
BERMAGUI
Steve Tedesco from Headhunter charters reports Yellowfin Tuna to 62 kilos taken from Narooma late last week. The Yellowtail Kingfish have also turned up at the Island but they are all just under or just on legal size.
Yours in fishing
