Rain received throughout the week has discoloured the pondage and the fishing has been unproductive with only the odd trout taken on powerbait and earthworms.

BALLARAT AND DISTRICT LAKES

Malmsbury Reservoir
Newlyn's is fishing well to lure and fly.

As reported last time water is covering new ground in all the bays at Malmsbury and the fishing is steadily improving. Bait fishermen are taking the odd trout from a pound to 2 pound in weight when fishing the bottom with scrub worm, earthworm and pink powerbait.
Fly-fishermen are also taking the odd trout on smelt patterns but one report indicates that shrimp patterns and in particular a size 10 latex shrimp has taken some nice trout. The best areas are at the top part of the portwine road bay and the northern shoreline.

Bostock Reservoir
Reports have shown that fishing earthworms and scrubbies in the late afternoon til dark is producing the odd trout up to a respectable 2 ponds in weight. Tasmanian Devils in the small size are also taking trout only a short distance from the shoreline.

Hepburn Lagoon
Hepburn, although up and down in its catch rate continues to do reasonably well to all methods with rainbow and Brown Trout taken to 4 pounds in weight. Bait fishermen are having their success on whitebait and scrub worm fished on the bottom while lure fishermen are taking the odd trout on Tassie devil lures and wobblers. The Tom Jones fly has been the best pattern for the fly fishermen but when blind searching a lot of hours have to be put in.

Tullaroop Reservoir
This lake, which is only a short distance from Cairn Curran, is fishing well for trout up to 2 pounds in weight. The water is slightly discoloured but this isn't stopping the trout from feeding or stopping the anglers from taking a trout when using earthworm, scrubbies and Bullhead minnows fished under a bubble float.
Fly fishermen are also taking trout on smelt patterns like size 10/8 Tom Jones, Mrs Simpson's and B.M.S. flies. Again the dam wall has been the most productive area.

Newlyn's Reservoir
Fisheries have just stocked the lake with half-pound Brown Trout, which has been the main catch of all anglers targeting this water. Bait fishermen are having success with earthworms, and whitebait when fished on the bottom and when on top with bubble floats live minnows are number one.
Fishermen Peter Browne and his son Travis fished the during the week and caught a few small Brown Trout on No-3 green Celtas that were only cast a short distance from the shore.
Fly-fishermen are also taking these newly released trout on smelt pattern flies with some bigger trout to a kilo taken at the back end of the lake.

Fly-fishing and lure casting is the preferred methods with small Tassie devils the most productive lure and grey, black Matukas the best flies.

Latest reports have bait fishermen taking the odd trout to a pound in weight and many small redfin on earthworms, maggots and pink powerbait.
