Report supplied by Davo's Compleat Angler Noosa
In the river, whiting are in great numbers with some quality fish getting caught. The best places to fish for whiting has been the warm shallow water of the river mouth aswell as some bigger models across from the Munna point caravan park. Flathead are in extremely active at the moment and there has been some great catches. The entrance to Goat Island has been the pick of the places to catch a few nice “Flatties” with a soft plastics the best option to catch one. Elsewhere in the river, large schools of big-eye trevally and a few GT’s are also getting caught around Woods Bay, especially at night time.
Off the beaches, the strong winds have made conditions difficult, but not impossible. A couple of dedicated locals have been getting into a few nice sized whiting and dart around Noosa North Shore as well as the stretch of beach before Double Island point.
Offshore has produced some cracking fish for those who braved the wind and rain. Big Snapper, pearlies, Cobia and even the odd Red Emperor are all being caught with the more remote reefs such as Chardon’s and North Reef. Long Tail Tuna (to 19kg!) are still in good numbers with a group of local kayak fisherman having an absolute ball catching these hard fighting fish on light gear. Trolling the calm waters of Laguna bay with a shallow running lure has been the most effective method to catch these big tuna, but a cast-and-retrieved metal slug is another great option.
Davos fish of the week this week goes to Hayden Wallbank for great trevally.
