Report: Hi all. WARNING TO ALL PEOPLE FISHING at Lake Hume. The redfin (English Perch) population is suffering from a horrid type of disease at the moment. These fish have large lesions and pussy sores on them. Samples have been sent to DPI VIC, but the department has declined to put out a statement or warning at this time, until the results are in. If it were EHN virus, the fish would be dead, but these fish are still alive, just. Once put into the box, they seem to die quickly and gill discolouration occurs within the hour and the fish start to emit a foul odour. For your own health and safety, I would advise you not to accept or eat these fish until the so called department issues an explanation as to what type of disease these fish have. The local clubs and fishing groups are putting pressure on the department to get an answer. Until this happens, again be wary about eating these fish. We will inform everyone when we get the answers. Cheer Gaz.
