 | | A closer look at the big bream that Team Aerogard landed in AFC Series 9, Match 3. 42cm f/l. — with Russell Babekuhl and Tristan Taylor in Forster, New South Wales. |
The third and final BREAM Match for Series 9 saw the two undefeated teams fish head-to-head for the Championship lead. Russ Babekuhl (Aerogard) and Kris Hickson (BCF) are not only ranked #1 and #2 in Australia, they're also both live only 30 minutes from Forster.
BCF started quickly, catching their five-fish limit in less than 90 minutes from Forster's oyster racks and accumulating an early weight that was the heaviest seen in the matches to date. They landed bream on a combination of soft plastic and hard bodies lures in the oyster racks.
Aerogard scratched up a couple of small fish, but they weren't matching BCF for wither size or numbers of fish.
That is until Russ made a vital decision and moved to the lower end of the 'paddock' for a couple of casts at some boards that had been good to him in the past. It proved to be an excellent choice as he hooked, fought and landed a ridiculously large 42cm fork-length, 1.8kg giant.
That fish catapulted Aerogard from well behind to well ahead.
In the final hour, BCF knew that they needed to upgrade, and even though they managed to replace a smaller fish from their limit, they couldn't make up the difference.
The final result - Aerogard again taking the maximum 12 points from the match and setting their BASS guys up for a real shot at the championship title.
