MOTHERSHIP GUIDING
Fishing Therapy is excited to announce a new fishing experience for the up coming season.
Travel aboard a 50-foot luxury vessel called the M.V.WINTERSUN which is destined to cruise the untouched waterways of the Top End. This unique experience is a once in a lifetime trip at a surprisingly affordable cost.
The fully decked out ship has the latest state of the art electronics including; furuno electrics, a C-Plot sat computer and the latest in safety navigation equipment. The sleeping quarters and Galley are fully air-conditioned and finished in a comfortable teak design.
After a cooked breakfast, step aboard one of our two, custom built 5-meter sportfishing vessels. Fully equipped with the best fishing gear money can buy, from Shimano reels and Loomis rods through to the latest Strudwick fly rods.
Your guides, Rod Cole and Michael Winterton will take you in comfort to the best fishing the Top End has to offer. Rod or " Rocket" as he has become known through his fishing travels has unmatchable knowledge when it comes to boat handling. His Master V, Grade 3 Skipper, M.E.D II and G.M.D.SS tickets are a reflection on his time in vessels. Rockets fishing has taken him all over the world to test his skills against many species. The last 10 years he has spent most of his time at sea between Broome, The Kimberley and Darwin. He has also skippered boats in Cairns for Giant Black Marlin and the world famous Bay Of Islands in New Zealand. Rods uncanny ability to catch fish in most situations has earnt him huge respect all over the country.
Michael Winterton has 3 years of guiding experience in the Top End at world class locations such as: Barra Base, Jessie Camp, Corroboree Billabong, the flats of Darwin and Bynoe Harbours. These three years place Michael in the know how with the fishing styles of the north.
This superb fishing experience will allow you to visit a variety of locations, some of which include; the Peron Islands, Bynoe Harbour, Daly river, The Kimberley region, Arnhem land and the Tiwi Islands.
Your job is to step aboard the M.V WINTERSUN and leave the rest of the experience to the skipper and crew.
After departing Darwin Harbour you will be fishing in no time, most travelling is done in the quiet of the night to maximize fishing time. Each day will see breakfast followed by a mornings session of chasing various fish species. Lunch is back on board in the comfort of the Air-conditioned galley followed by an afternoon session until dark, that is of course if your arms can hold up after the mornings fishing! Once back on board all that is required of you is some warranted relaxation of the top deck. Perhaps a beer or gin and tonic can help assist whilst watching the famous Territory sunset. In the meantime your days catch is being prepared for your evening meal. Following dinner a chat amongst your selves and the friendly crew completes a most enjoyable day. Keep in mind such conversations usually leave one knee deep in fish scales after reflecting on the days results. Of course the other alternative may be twilight fishing off the deck if your days fishing experience has not already been satisfied!
Species List
Aside from the much sought after Barramundi the Top End offers some superb light tackle fishing for Threadfin Salmon, Blue Salmon, Queenfish, Trevally, Tuna, Jacks, Jewfish and many other reef species.
Our main priority on this mother ship trip is of course fitting in with our clients fishing desires. The itinerary for the particular trip will be pre-set in relation to the various fishing locations but overall you will have the option of what species you would like to catch and what styles of fishing you prefer.
Queenfish and Trevally are fun on the inshore bommies, Tuna on the other hand are speedsters that are always a thrill to catch.
Fishing up the creeks and inlets is generally a tide related and this is where the Barra fishing comes into its own. Whether you want to sight-fish the flats and cast flies to cruising fish or troll deep rock bars the guides diverse, angling experience can help you find your dream fishing!

DARWIN HARBOUR
Darwin Harbour is blessed with probably the best harbour fishing of any capital city in Australia. Both lure and fly angling is optional for catching species such as; Barra, Threadfin Salmon, Queenfish and G'T's, while inshore shore Jewies, Golden Snapper and Mackerel are common. 'Fishing Therapy's' specialty is sight fishing the extensive flats for Barra and Threadfin salmon. During the months of June, July, August and September Longtail Tuna boil bait schools under the shadow of the city, they are great fun on light tackle and also on the fly rod.
The boat ramp is conveniently located 5 minutes from central hotels within Darwin.
Accommodation can be arranged in a private city apartment for $60 per head per night twin share for your convenience.
CORROBOREE BILLABONG
Located a little over an hour from Darwin this famous freshwater billabong is home to the pre-historic looking Saratoga, Tarpon and hard fighting Barra. Not to mention the sights of surrounding wetlands, bird species and of course monster crocs. This is a must see destination during your stay in the N.T.
Extended Trips can be arranged.
SHADY CAMP / MARY RIVER
This world renowned run-off Barra location is situated on the Mary River 2 hours from Darwin. Best fished in months of March, April and May the Barra are usually plentiful and the chance of a 20-kilo monster are on the cards! To add to this great fishing, the mouth of the system offers giant Threadfin salmon, Blue salmon and big Jewfish, Shady is a fisherman's heaven during these months. The ideal spot to learn the art of catching barra on the fly rod. Extended Trips can also be arranged.
BYNOE HARBOUR / CRAB CLAW ISLAND RESORT
This location offers miles of clear water flats where cruising Barra and Threadies can be sight fished all day. Close by the inshore waters hold schools of Queenies, Mackerels and "bad to the bone" Giant Trevally. Superb Lodge style accommodation is positioned over looking the water with open air restaurant and bar. A most appropriate setting to relax with a cold one at the end of the day.
* Overnight Package at Crab Claw Resort includes breakfast, lunch and dinner and overnight accommodation in beach style huts. |
