Tying Instructions
1) Using white thread.
2) Take a short shanked hook one to two sizes smaller then the
main long shank hook and tie on a length metal trace or a doubled
loop of mono trace to the bare hook shank - super glue and or
epoxy tie in point.
3) Cut an appropriate length of Corsair minnow body tubing.
4) Feed smaller hook into body tubing, tie tubing to hook shank
- super glue tie in point. Leave enough minnow tubing hanging
past hook bend to later form tail - set aside temporarily.
5) Place main hook in vice.
6) Tie mono or wire trace to main hook, super glue tie in point.
7) Slide minnow body tubing into place and tie in at the half
way point of the hook shank .
8) Change over to the black thread.
9) Wrap tie in point of minnow tubing and the rest of the hook
shank to form level and even beak section.
10) Change over to red thread and add a red tip to the beak just
behind the hook eye.
11) Epoxy head and beak sections and back to gill area - allow
to set.
12) While epoxy still tacky add prism eyes and give another light
layer of epoxy to hold in place more securely.
13) With permanent markers add dark back and gills. Optionally
but not required is a prominent black dot in the top half of
the fly just in front of the tail tie in point.
14) Add a little epoxy to tail, ensure flat and once dry, a cut
"V" out of tail to form tail. Mark appropriately with
marker pen. |
Fly Notes |
Fishing Notes
Fished with either a floating line
or sinking line. Depending on where in the water column the baitfish
are travelling and the intended target species resides. Remember
there is no point in chasing flathead with the fly on the surface
or tarpon with the fly bouncing on the bottom. Though weirder
things have happened in the past.
Can be targeted on most estuarine and inshore species - big flathead,
mangrove jack, trevally, spanish and spotted mackerel, wahoo.
In larger sizes should work for billfish. |
Location Notes
Anywhere in the salt that contain
garfish. |
Prey Notes
