Fly Notes
Australian version of the 'Slim Jim' by Charlie Cypert. (Ref Fly Fishing & Tying Journal Fall 1999 p88)
This fly would provide a more erratic movement on the strip than the unweighted "Eyes" flies I had been using for the Mac tuna around Newcastle each autumn/winter. Then spied the Slim Jim in a recent US fly fishing magazine, perfect (with a few changes to suit what was in my fly tying cabinet). Hook selection is cheaper than a 34011 with a narrower hook gape. Body material is cheaper than fly specific body braid.

Fishing Notes
Fish fly on a long leader. Use a clear intermediate or floating fly line.
Target species include any pelagics that feed on small baitfish e.g. Mackerel, Tuna. Estuary Bream like it too.

Location Notes
Spot birds working. Slowly motor upwind of the school. Drift quietly down on to the school. Cast ahead of the school. Let the fly sink a bit. Strip the fly fast if a little erratic stop and start.

Prey Notes
Small silver baitfish.
