Baby Pilchard Popper

Tying Instructions
1) Core out boogie board with drill and brass tube ( 7mm dia. Used ) then cut disc from plastic to size needed.
2) With a hot large needle make a hole down the centre of the foam and insert biro tube and glue.
3) Cut mylar strips so that 4 strips parallel with the foam cover the circumference of the foam. Glue with contact cement. Two coloured on top two silver below .
4) Coat head with softex or similar and allow to dry. Ensure mylar is the correct length for the baitfish and extends at least a few centimeters behind the foam.
5) Paint on or stick on eyes.
6) Coat body as far back as the foam goes with softex or similar.
7) Trim mylar strips to give a tapered appearance at rear i.e. Cut diagonally from middle of each tip ( twice ) back to the edge of strip where it meets the foam.

Fly Notes
Easy to cast with little bulk compared to hard body poppers and you can vary the action with simple change of disc or use as a slider with no disc.

Fishing Notes
Leader setup is normally short 6 foot with bite tippet. You may need to slow down you casting stroke for the extra bulk. Can be stripped double handed to really skitter… sometimes diving as the free pooper disc ensure erratic action. Can be stripped paused with a bigger disc for bigger surface disturbance / change size of disc to suit.
Target species tailor, salmon, kings and tuna that crash the surface eating bait fish.

Location Notes
Great off the rocks or from a boat either fished near frantic bait fish or near washes.

Prey Notes

Saltwater fleeing baitfish.
