Bead Head Bugger

Tying Instructions

1- Slip your bead over the point of the hook. It may be necessary to crush your barb.
2- Tie in a marabou bunch for the tail, don't be afraid to use a fair bit. Also add some flash to the tail, if so desired.
3-Wrap some lead on the shank if you require additional weight. Cocoon the lead and smooth over with your tying thread.
4-Tie in the body hackle by the tip, at the bend.
5- Tie in your ribbing wire at the same point
6-Dub an even body
7-Wind your rib, followed by the body feather. Try to encourage the feather barbs to sweep back. You can wind the hackle first, and then rib, if you wish. This can make for a more durable fly.
8-Tie in the purple hackle by the butt. Wind hackle and whip finish.
9-Throw it at a big fish!

Fly Notes

Fishing Notes
Use a shortish leader, and slow the casting stroke down a bit.
Targeted species, primarily a trout fly, but can certainly find a spot in the fly box of the saltwater, or native fish angler.

Location Notes
Fish it in a lake as a searching fly, or down and across through pools in the dark.
