Tying Instructions
1) Start thread at eye and spiral to hook bend.
2) Tie in tail and at rear ( 10cms of tinsel )wrap tinsel to 2/3 of the way to hook eye - tie off.
3) Add a small amount of calf tail about length of hook shank, trim excess to leave room for deer hair.
4) Get a clump of deer hair the thickness of a pencil, using the pinch method tie in the hair. Try to keep thread wraps in middle of hair , i.e. Between the tinsel and the hook eye as it make trimming easier. About 4 or 5 firm wraps should make it flare when pulled tight.
5) With a hair stacker or biro case push the flared hair back toward the bend and bring thread forward and while keeping the pressure on half hitch and whip finish.
6) Put the kettle on and while steaming hold fly over steam with tweezers ( otherwise you will get scalded. This makes the hair stand up and easier to trim.
7) Trim the fly to shape with scissors and flexible razor, then cement the head.
