Bleeding Muddler

Tying Instructions
1) Tie on hook just ahead of bend.
2) Pinch on and tie a small bunch of white calf tail.
3) Pinch and tie on a small bunch of red calf tail, on top of white.
4) Wrap thread forward over both white and red calf tail to a point which is equal to one quarter of the hook shank length, and trim any remaining calf tail.
5) Wrap thread back to tie in point and tie on 3 inches of Mylar tinsel.
6) Wrap Mylar back to the one quarter of hook shank.
7) Trim Mylar and tie off.
8) Place a moderate amount of natural deer hair on top of shank at this point. (It works best if you wrap once around the bunch of deer hair, before wrapping around the hook shank).
9) Let front end of deer hair flare.
10) Next spin three to four bunches of deer hair (I find that I can cut each bunch in half, and alternate using the tips and the but ends).
11) When you reach the hook eye tie off and cement thread.
12) Now carefully trim the deer hair head to a conical shape, which blends into the tail.

Fly Notes
If you hold your deer hair flies over a boiling tea pot for a few seconds, the steam will cause all of the hairs to stand up straight. This helps in shaping a more uniform fly. I also find that all hair bugs perform much better if they are given a liberal coating of a past type of floatant.

Fishing Notes
Taget species include Bass, Golden Perch and other fresh water natives

Location Notes

Prey Notes
