Brown and White Bucktail

Tying Instructions
1) An old American design that is simple to tie and effective for most species of fish.
2) Set hook in vise and put a smooth layer of thread from eye to the bend.
3) Tie in silver mylar at the bend and wrap thread back to within 1/4 the length from eye to bend.
4) Wrap mylar towards eye insuring a tight even body.
5) Tie in a small clump of white deerhair on top of the hook shank, should be 1-1/2 the length of the hook shank.
6) Make a few soft loops with thread and then tighten down to hold in place on top of the hook shank, trim bucktail at an angle to the eye. It is a good idea to add a drop of head cement or other glue to the hair ends where you tie them in this increases durability a great deal.
7) Add a second small clump of darker bucktail on top of the white bucktail, repeat tie down procedure.
8) Wrap in thread to make a smooth head and tie off.
9) Head cement over thread wraps to finish the fly.
10) Flash material and eyes may be added to the fly if you want to spruce it up a bit.

Fly Notes

Fishing Notes
Rivers or tidal ares with currents fish down and across dead drift on the way down stream, then short strips on the retrieve back upstream. Open waters fish with short to long strips using whatever line is needed to get the fly to the depth needed. Most retrieves will be continual with very little to no pauseing involved.
Targhet species includes most cold water species will take this fly in small sizes. Works well for bass, crappie, bluegill in warmwater. Can be used for all sorts of saltwater species limited only by the length of bucktail available to you.

Location Notes
Around Riffles runs and rocks in streams and rivers any likely holding areas for trout. Warmwater next to any heavy cover use as a searching fly when fish are scattered. Saltwater along rips or anywhere there is a current and along weedlines and cover. Be sure to toss to any places where fish are breaking bait.

Prey Notes
Very basic minnow or fish fry imitation. Can be tied in as many color combinations as you can find bucktail. Also works well when three colors of bucktail are used.
