Bucktail Charlie

Tying Instructions
1) If tying a tail, cut a small bunch of crystal flash and tie in above the bend. Cut to around half the length of the hook shank.
2) Tie in the chenille and wrap forward to halfway up the hook shank and tie off.
3) Tie in lead eye or bead chain on top of shank. Can be glued to prevent it twisting while fishing.
4) Whip finish in front of eyes and then take hook out of vise, turn upside down and return to vise.
5) I take a pinch of bucktail around twice the length of the hook shank and tie in to form an streamer type wing.
6) Form head with tying silk and whip finish.
7) Cement whip finish or cover head in epoxy cement.

Fly Notes

Fishing Notes
Slap it down hard and strip it in fast. Sometimes I sweep the rod back to really get the fly moving. Queenfish and trevally will sometimes follow without striking. When this happens just pick it up and slap it down again as hard as you can and start stripping. They seem to work themselves up and then hammer the fly. Set the hook hard as they do seem to throw it fairly easily.
Target species include queenfish, trevally, mack tuna.

Location Notes
Best results when fished around rocky shorelines or structures such as wharves etc.

Prey Notes
General baitfish pattern. Can be tied in different sizes for different situations and targeted species.
