Deep Green Mudeye

Tying Instructions
1) Wrap shank in thread attach eyes using X method.
2) With lead wire add extra weight if needed.
3) Tie in chenille in the middle of shank but slightly closer to hook eye than middle, also yie in copper wire near hook bend leave thread at rear.
4) Wind chenille back to hook bend to desired length, over wrap with thread to middle of shank. Then make wraps of chenille to "slightly closer to hook eye than middle", tie down but do not cut chenille.
5) Wind wire forward to represent segmentation of abdomen and stop and tie off at middle where chenille stops.
6) (See Tying Diagram)
Now select a partridge feather with barb length similar to the required leg length, now cut out a piece from the equal in length to that of hook eye to chenille. Using you fingers pull out a few barbs from the cut area leaving the stem showing a few millimeters say 3-4mm. Hold tip and brush back barbs so the leave the stem at right angles, you should still have the tip of the stem and a few barbs in you fingers.
7) Place feather down on top of shank and secure at the "middle" end. Separate the barbs into three groups (not the tip bit you just separated and left pointing forward) now work the thread through theses, leaving 3 bunches of legs each side of the shank, you will then secure the tip bit on top of the shank near the lead eyes, then advance thread to behind hook eye.
8) Continue chenille through the separated legs ensuring you hold them in the correct outward and slightly down position ( this take some practice ) wrap chenille around the eyes, tie off and whip finish.
9) After cementing the head give the abdomen a good soaking with cement ( not the legs) and then get out some pliers and squash the abdomen into that realistic mudeye profile , wide and thin ! Allow to dry.

Fly Notes

Fishing Notes
Leader will be determined by depth of water and or line used, in the river it was created for it had to be on the bottom, in this case a heavier leader was require to get back snagged flies. Casting was as normal unless really light rods were used i.e. 3/4wt. Presentation in the river was drag free drift and in the lake a 10-20 cm strip with short pause worked most times, sometime slowly was best.
Target species is Trout.

Location Notes
This fly was created to fish deep fast rapids, in a NSW river. Has worked well in dams fished deep in the middle of the day.

Prey Notes
Exact representation of dark green mudeye.
