Easy Midge Pupa
Emerger Freshwater
Hook : 16-18.
Thread : 8/0 black.
Body : Bare black hook shank or black thread.
Head/Thorax : Peacock herl.
Rib : Thin flashabou/ silver or pearl.
Breather : White marabou. |
|
Tying Instructions
1.Wrap shank with thread to just past hook bend. ( if not using
black hook )
2. Tie in rib/flash at end of thread past hook bend, advance
thread to thorax area.
3. Advance flash along shank toward eye leaving a segmented appearance,
stop at thorax and tie off.
4. Tie in small amount of white marabou pointing upwards just
below hook eye.
5. Tie in peacock herl just below breather, I use two bits and
make twist around thread with dubbing wax on it and wrap down
to meet the rib, I then whip finish below the thorax where herl
meets the rib. |
Fly Notes
I tried to copy Kaj Busch fly here
from Australia's best trout flies however the short instructions
left me guessing, apologies to Bushy but this version is how
I managed to get it together. |
Fishing Notes
Longer leaders always an advantage chasing midge feeders, great
as a dropper on the mad midge ball. Dead drift or fast figure
8 retrieve. Attempt to target individual fish, a slow , slow
strip as fish approaches can bring results sometimes if your
fly is ignored.
Targeted species include midge feeding trout. |
Location Notes
Anywhere you find hatching midges. |
