Egg Sucking Bugger

Tying Instructions

1. Go to spotlight/lincraft/craft shop. Buy small orange pompoms and some black pipe cleaners - not the thinnest ones but the next size up (5mm diameter?)
2. Lay a small bed of thread back from the eye to help seat the pompom. Tie off. Push pompom onto the hook and side it up the shank and onto the thread bed. Add a dab of superglue just behind the eye. Push the pompom up so it's now snug behind the eye.
3. Wrap some lead wire onto the shank behind the pompom. I use 6 or seven turns of .030.
4. Tie in thread again, going back over the wrapped wire for extra security.
5. Tie in a clump of black marabou for the tail. Add three or 4 strands of flash on top. Add another dab of super glue if you have a nervous disposition and take the thread back to the pompom egg/head.
6. Strip the webby bits from the grizzly hackle, trim and tie it in at the tail. Yes, I know some people tie their hackles in at the head but this is the way I do it, okay? J
7. Take the pipe cleaner and crimp it onto the shank just in front of the hackle. Now, taking special care that the tail doesn't twist on the shank, wrap the pipe cleaner once behind the hackle, then forward down the shank till it's snug behind the pompom. Snip the pipecleaner with a pair of cheap scissors and crimp it onto the shank with the trusty needlenose pliers.
8. Palmer the hackle forward and tie it off behind the pompom.
9. Carefully add a dab of glue and go fishing, you bugger.

Fly Notes

Fishing Notes
Don't be a silly bugger and forget to dry this bugger well after use. No point having the pipecleaner wire in the bugger go rusty any quicker than it has to.
Targeted species, trout and probably carp are the sort of buggers that would fall for this fly.

Location Notes

Prey Notes
This is basically a craft shop inspired egg sucking leech type pattern. Use in the same way you would your other favourite buggers.
