Tying Instructions
1) Attach thread at front of hook. Clean and stack a small bunch of Elk hair, cut off tips. Attach, butts forward, to front 1/3 of hook with elk on bottom of the shank. (We'll be pulling this hair back to form body later.)
2) Clean and stack a bunch of deer hair. Tie in, tips forward, shank length, at front 1/3 of hook on top of elk. This will be pulled back to form bullet head later.
3) Pull back elk hair to form body. Rib with yellow thread to form short, extended body then advance thread back to 1/3 point.
4) Trim elk hair above bend in hook and apply a drop of flexi-Cement
5) Prepare a 'V' shaped turkey tail overwing. Tie in at 1/3 point; 'V' just reaching butt of fly.
6) Tie in a pair of knotted pheasant tail 'legs', one to each side at 1/3 point.
7) Pull back deer hair to form a bullet head. Pull down tight to flare deer hair. Whip finish at 1/3 point.

Fly Notes
This fly, created by Ralph Headrick of Jackson Hole, was featured in Jack Dennis and Friends book Tying Flies. It can be tied in light green, yellow, and red: to match the naturals. Tied in black it imitates crickets. Being fairly straightforward to tie and a highly effective imitation, I always carry a few in different sizes in case we run into trout feeding on hoppers.

Fishing Notes
Target species includes Brown & Rainbow trout.

Location Notes
Undercut banks and under over hanging trees.

Prey Notes

Grasshopper imitation.
