Fun Foan Popper

Tying Instructions
The basic fly as it was shown to me originally is just the foam circle, marabou tail and hackle. So the eyes are optional, the sparkle on the head is optional.

1) Cut out the foam circles.
2) Put a thread base down behind the eye, and a add a drop of super glue.
3) Pinch the bottom of the foam circle and slide onto hook shank.
4) Hold pinched portion in place, and wrap down.
5) Tie in tail material
6) Tie in hackle by the tip and wrap forward to just behind the head.
7) Wrap hackle down hook shank towards head, trim excess.
8) Whip finish.
9) Now trim the hackle flat on the bottom of the fly.

Fly Notes

Without the eyes and the sparkle it's an easy pattern to tie.
Try using that 6 mm foam, and cut out large circles(1" diameter) and make some cheap easy saltwater poppers.

Fishing Notes
Fly can be popped like a conventional popper, used like a gurgler by making long slow strips or used as a darter by using a sinking line. Vary retrieve speed and time at rest to find what your particular quarry is interested in that day. Good fly for night fishing or murky water.
Target species include any species that will take a top water should take this fly if presented in the proper size and color. Especially good for Australian Bass, Golden Perch and other fresh water natives & US species such as Black Bass & Pike species in fresh water, Redfish, Blues, Stripers & Speckled trout in the Salt.

Location Notes
Fishing top water cast to structure and break lines work thoroughly around weedbeds and stickups. If fishing subsurface on a sinking line fish points and rips. Also works down and across in rivers with sinking line.

Prey Notes
This fly best represents an injured baitfish.
