Tying Instructions
To bend standard streamer hook -
1) Heat and straighten eye if not straight.
2) Heat and bend shank away from hook point approximately ½ way down shank to give a slight keel.
To tie.
1) Wrap shank with thread and tie in eyes on top of shank.
2) Tie in rib at tail leave loose.
3) Proceed to dub with hares ear leaving a small gap before the eyes ( to tie in end of zonker).
4) Rib the body with 5 - 6 turns - tie off behind head.
5) Cut zonker strip make the end of the zonker strip skin stop just before the hook bend but with fur flowing past bend . tie in behind head.
6) Dub around where you tied the zonker in ( I always make one wrap behind and under the zonker and then cover the area where the end of the strip is tied in) then just dub around the eyes to form a head and whip finish and add cement.

Fly Notes
All the big browns we would polaroid and take to eat would be full of these little speckled fish, so we decided to take a few photos and make one. It has caught mudeye feeders on balmy evenings and spawning rainbows in the Coxs and Jenolan rivers when the rainbows refused to take glow bugs drifted right over their noses but would move 4 foot to either side of their lies to crush the little GG as is drifted past behind the glow bug.

Fishing Notes
Fished to represent forage fish. As a gudgeon it is best fished with 12 inch strips with long pause in between allowing the fly to rest back on the bottom before darting off again. Is deadly on spawning river fish behind a glowbug. Sometimes a flat out retrieve works well.
Target species is cruising browns in lakes and rainbows on their spawning run either in the rivers or near river mouths in dams

Location Notes
In areas where the motley coloured gudgeon is found you can search the drop-offs or near weed banks with this fly or cast to visible smelters.

Prey Notes
This fly has the natural movement that fish love, and was designed to be a gudgeon but took mudeye feeders as well - developed on browns in lakes near Sydney.
