Tying Instructions
1) Take three to five linked medium
beads from some metal bead chain and tie on slightly forward
of the mid point of a 34011 hook. These should be tied on so
they line up with the hook shank opposite the hook bend, this
will cause the fly to swim point upward (clouser style).
2) Wrap thread back to the bend slide medium mylar or flexo tubing
over the eye and to the bend, trap using the thread, leave a
small portion to extend past thread. Fray the mylar or flexo
that extends past the thread tie off the thread and clip.
3) Re-tie the thread on behind the eye pull the mylar/flexo closed
and wrap tightly leaving a area large enough for the head. The
body should be flat along the underside of the hook(bend side)
and form a belly on the other.
4) Remove two to four matching cape feathers and match the tips
up with each other, length should be two and one half times the
body length. Trim a portion of the feathers off on one side,
tie in the butts with the trimmed side touching the body.
5) Build up the head using thread until it is the desired length
and diameter.
6) Tie off and coat with head cement.
7) Add holographic eyes and re-coat until required shine is accomplished.
8) Flash can be added to wing if desired, and you can make a
few loops of thread over the hackle at the rear, like a matuka,
if you wish.
This is a good fly to tie in silver and white and gold and white
then colour stream side with permanent ink markers. |

Fishing Notes
Fished with either a floating line
or sinking line. Depending on where in the water column the baitfish
are travelling and the intended target species resides. Remember
there is no point in chasing flathead with the fly on the surface
or tarpon with the fly bouncing on the bottom. Though weirder
things have happened in the past.
Can be targeted on most estuarine and inshore species - pelagics,
tuna, mangrove jack & flathead. |
Location Notes
Anywhere in the salt. |
