Tying Instructions
Tie in tail hackles. Ensure that they
do not slope down. Tie in gold rib. Leave hanging out the back.
Tie in the green chenille at the tail and wrap along the shank.
It is important that the chenille should not taper towards the
back. Tie off well back from the head.
Take two grizzle feathers and place back to back. Wing should
extend beyond the bend approx 15mm. Strip the fibres from the
underside of each wing but only up to the bend of the hook. Tie
in the two wing feathers at the head in front of the chenille.
Take gold rib and wrap one turn around chenille but under the
wing. The second wrap should go over the wing holding it firmly
in position. The third wrap should also go over the wing. Tie
off at the head.
Tie in two short fibre hackle feathers at the head and wrap each
in turn, creating a collar behind the eye. |
Fly Notes
The original Dorothy was created by
Phil Parsons as a stablemate of the Parsons Glory. Parsons used
the plumage from a barred rock rooster and tied the fly with
a silver body. Since then variations have often been tied with
yellow or red bodies but my own preference is green. |
Fishing Notes
Targeted species, equally effective
on Browns and Rainbows. |
Location Notes
Very versatile fly which can be used
at stream mouths to represent smelt or upstream to represent
trout fry. Very handy along the edge of weedbeds in shallow lakes
and if tied small enough can also be used as a damsel-fly nymph. |
