Tying Instructions

1) Tie in thread just behind hook eye and wind back along shank to a point equal to the barb and tie in tail fibres.
2) Take your forward along hook shank to roughly 3/4 - 2/3 from the tail. Take a small bunch of white Hi-Vis about an inch and a half long and half as thick as you want to use and tie in flat (i.e. spent spinner style, half to the left and half to the right). Next grip both ends of the Hi-Vis and hold vertically to form a single post and wrap your thread around the base to hold in place.
3) Take thread back to where you tied in the tail and dub an evenly tapered body towards the post stopping just behind the post.
4) Take your hackle and tie in just behind the post with the shiny side facing towards you, now take your thread in front of the post and extend to just behind the eye.
5) Dub a small section on the thread and wind back towards the post in a tapered fashion to match the rest of the body.
6) Take your hackle and wind around the post in a counter clockwise direction approximately 3-5 times making each subsequent turn beneath the previous one.
7) Tie in using 2 horizontal turns catching the hackle feather and locking it in place hard in the dubbing. Trim excess hackle feather.
8) Take thread forward to hook eye and tie off.

Fly Notes

Fishing Notes
Generally drift the fly over rising fish or those just breaking the surface taking emerging nymphs. The success of this fly (and all of its variants), in my opinion is due to the fact that it sits low on the water. On the lake front, the fly should be presented to feeding fish or if blind casting, allowed to drift naturally with any breeze.
Target species include Trout.

Location Notes
This is a fantastic fly for both lakes and rivers and one of my favorites for fishing the Goulburn River. Particularly when the Duns are either hatching or emerging.

Prey Notes

Mayfly dun/emerger imitation.
