Fly Notes
I developed the method of tying a hackled fly backwards because
I wanted to get the advantages of a parachute hackle without
the extra weight and difficulty usually involved. At the time
I was also unemployed and broke, and this method allowed me to
use hackles much larger (and cheaper) than would normally suit
the hook size. The method also suits spinners and duns beautifully
as well as any other types of hackled dry fly. |
Fishing Notes
The flat hackle makes this fly float in the surface quite nicely.
The fly is quite bouyant and I often find I can fish one all
day if it doesn't get chewed to bits or hung up a tree.
Target species includes Trout. |
Location Notes
Anywhere you might use a conventional
Red Tag or Coachman will suit this fly, though I find it particularly
useful in bubbly little streams where takes are hard to see and
watching the fly closely is essential. |
Prey Notes
Nominally a beetle, but I don't think
it matters that much. |
