Fly Notes
On some Pacific islands including
Fiji the locals pull seaweed on to the beach and weave in to
large bulky mat. Once dry they tow it in their boats offshore
passed the reefs and anchor it with rocks tied with homemade
ropes. A little siesta time and later in the afternoon they fill
their boats with Mahi Mahi and other pelagics that have congregated
under the mats of dried seaweed. This is the fly I used to catch
a few such species offshore of SE QLD, a few mates took a few
of these flies when they went to Fiji and caught a few with the
locals around those organic FADS. |
Fishing Notes
Have used both sinking and floating
fly lines depending on position of target species in water column.
Due to flies size use a heavy butt section leader, strong tippet
and again depending on target species a short/medium length of
shock tippet.
Target species pelagics like mahi mahi, tunas and resident yellowtail
kingfish. |
