Tying Instructions
1. Coat a section of the quill with vinyl cement and allow to dry.
2. Tie in palmered hackle at bend.
3. Dub and wind on fine body (side by side, NO overlap).
4. Palmer the hackle, shiny side to front (5-6 turns).
5. Trim of ALL top hackles and the sides to about 45º (to allow wing to be folded over the sides without crushing hackles).
6. Cut a section (~0.5 cm wide) of the quill and bend in half. Also known as a "hooded" wing. Rear end can be cut on an angle to give pointed tips.
7. Sit on top of the hook (ensuring that the rear end is in the correct position, approx. level with bend) and tie in lightly. Make sure it is on top and then tie in firmly. Trim at the front.
8. Build up a thread bed at the front of the hook.
9. Tie in more of the hackle at the front of the wing. Wrap about 3 turns of hackle, tie off and trim.
10. Finish off with a few thread turns, half-hitch or whip finish.
11. Trim the rear of the wing just inside the bend.
