Purple Marabou Clouser
Other Freshwater
Hook : Mustad
2451.
Thread : Black.
Bottom Wing : Purple marabou.
Eyes : Plated dumbbell.
Top Wing : Peacock polar flash. Black ultra hair.
Head : Black Thread. Light coating of epoxy. |
 |
Tying Instructions
1) Lay down a bed of thread from hook
eye to hook bend.
2) Take thread back to 2/5's along hook shank from hook eye.
3) Tie in at this point some plated dumbbell eyes.
4) Tie in purple marabou, unlike with bucktail clousers the marabou
if tied in at only this point will foul on the hook bend at times.
So wrap the marabou for the full length of the hook shaft to
the hook bend. Then just wrap only the marabou for a least five
to seven thread wraps past this point.
5) Invert hook in vice and tie in peacock polar flash in between
dumbbell eyes and hook eye.
6) Tie in a wing of black Ultra hair over the Polar Flash.
7) Form a tapered head with the thread.
8) Give the tapered head and eyes a light coating of 5 minute
epoxy.
9) Place on drying wheel till epoxy sets.
10) Go catch some fish. |
Fly Notes
Bass, but works well in various colour on flathead, bream and
other estuary species. I usually use a size four hook for wild
bass and when fishing impoundment where larger fish can be expected
us a size 2 - 1/0 hook. |
Fishing Notes
A quick short - medium length strip
will give the best swimming action. In impoundments I use a fast
sinking fly line to help get the fly down, while on rivers and
streams use a floating line with a longer leader. |
Location Notes
In Impoundments normally I cast parallel
to a steep bank or sink the fly down beside a tree trunk standing
in deep water. Under cut banks with over hanging trees or mid
pool rocks and boulders when in the rivers. |
Prey Notes
Attractor pattern. |
