Tying Instructions
1) Start thread at bend.
2) Tie in hackles splayed inward even number per side of hook
shank.
3) Tie in flash materials on top and sides of hackle tail.
4) Tie in a marabou feather by the tip and palmer tightly towards
the eye.
5) Push the feather strands towards the rear each time you make
a revolution so they don't become trapped.
6) Continue adding marabou until you have about 5 mm of hook
shank behind the eye.
7) Then choose the largest webbiest hackle bases in the strung
hackle, tie in and wrap thread forward and palmer hackle forward
tightly.
9) Trap the hackle with thread when you get to the less webby
portion of the feather, clip off and start another webby base.
10) Continue this process until you fill the shank to the eye.
11) Whip finish a head and seal with cement. |

Fishing Notes
Fish this fly any way you wish there
is no wrong way to fish it. In streams fish it down and across
then use short strips to retrieve it. Use it for sight casting
on the flats, drop it quietly into the field of view of the intended
quarry let it settle for a moment then strip quickly away from
the fish. In a warmwater impoundment cast in five degree increments
in a likely area to search the area use short to medium strips
to cause the fly to pulsate and flare on the retrieve. I have
even had explosive surface strikes when fly is cast out dry and
left on the surface to soak up water. Usually you would pre soak
this fly before casting.
This fly will take most fish, it is only limited by the sizes
that can be tied with conventional materials. It was originally
designed for tarpon, snook and striper but works well for redfish,
speckled trout, large and small mouth bass. |

Prey Notes
Imitates bait fish of all kinds. Can
be tied in any number of color combinations all white, white/redhead,
white/chartreuse head and all black being most common in these
parts. Adding one to two wraps of red marabou where the head
usually starts adds a nice gill effect. Colored pens can be used
to add color and lateral lines to the fly without causing any
ill effects to the action of the fly. |
