Purple Wooly Bugger
Other Freshwater
Hook : Size
7 swimming nymph.
Thread : Black.
Tail : Purple marabou.
Body : Purple Chenille stick (bend end going onto hook to
make it easier to wrap).
Hackle : Oversized purple hackle palmered over chenille
body. |
 |
Tying Instructions
1) Wrap thread to bend. Tie in a
tail of purple marabou.
2) Tie in the hackle.
3) Take The chenille stem and bend the end a few times to weaken
the wire. This makes it easier to wind the stem on the hook.
5) Wrap chenille to the front of the hook. Cut off with wire
cutters.
6) Palmer the hackle forward over the chenille.
7) Whip finish. |
Fly Notes
No weight added as chenille stem has
a wire core.
I have better luck with this fly with the oversized hackle.
Seems to give it more action. |
Fishing Notes
This has worked moving slowly and
pulling it at various speeds. Leader length depends on water
depth. I use a shorted leader in shallow water.
Have caught bass, bluegill and a few catfish on this fly. |
Location Notes
I use this mainly in ponds. Sometimes
casting to shore and bringing out and at times pulling it along
a break line. |
Prey Notes
Attractor streamer pattern of sorts. |
