Hook : Mustad
34007 or Tiemco 811s.
Thread : White.
Body : Silicone covered with a light layer of epoxy.

Tying Instructions
1) Dip fingers into a mixture of dishwashing
liquid and water (ratio of half a cup of water to two drops dishwashing
liquid).
2) Take a lump of clear silicone and mould along hook shank to
form an elongated baitfish body shape.
3) Leave two to four millimetres between hook eye and silicone
body, so you can tie on wing later.
4) Place on stick on prism eyes after five - ten minutes.
5) Set aside to set for 24 hours, make up several to save time.
6) Mix up some five minute epoxy.
7) Give the body and eyes a very light coating of epoxy, place
on drying wheel until set (or by hand).
8) Allow to dry, best to leave again for 24 hours so not tacky,
if so after a 24 hours give a coating of nail polish or head
cement.
9) Then lay down a bed of thread between hook eye and body material.
10) Cut a length of white zonker, I normally make this quite
long, then depending on what size of baitfish the target species
is eating trim to size when on the water. Usually cut to twice
the body length. Careful when cutting zonker to only cut the
skin not the fur.
11) Trim tip of zonker to a short "V" shape, just nip
off each corner of square tip.
12) Tie in tip of zonker at hook eye.
13) Tie in some Flashabou down each side.
14) Tie of thread, trim excess.
15) Mix a small amount of epoxy, place a small amount on the
underside (skin side) of the zonker strip and lay down onto the
clear body.
16) Place it in the right place and leave it till set, stroking
the wing material will only put epoxy on it.
17) Any left over epoxy give the thread at head a little epoxy,
place on drying wheel until set (or by hand). |
Fly Notes
Fly design by Brad Orford (Saltwater
Flyfishing Issue 16, p113). |
Fishing Notes
A quick medium length strip and stop/pause
retrieve will give the best swimming action. Though the action
of the zonker strip when stationary will still see strikes.
Can be targeted on most inshore species - Trevally, rat yellowtail
kings, Australian Salmon and other inshore pelagics will like
this fly. Most Saltwater species would find this pattern highly
edible. |
Location Notes
Anytime you want to match the hatch
with a transparent baitfish. |
