Tying Instructions

1. Place hook in vise. I've used a size 16 but you may want to go smaller if you like.
2. Tie in thread. Start at the hook eye and wrap evenly back down the shank and into the bend of the hook.
3. Tie in the Krystal flash where the thread ends in the bend of the hook.
4. Tie in the mono at the same point. I use cheap and cheerful 12 lb Daiwa Stream line which I bought from K Mart. It's a bronze-brown colour on the spool. At this stage I run a dab of head cement over the body to secure it before wrapping.
5. Loosely wrap the Krystal flash forward about 5 times. The idea is not to completely cover the brown thread, rather to highlight it with the flash. Tie down at the head
6. Now start wrapping the mono forward as tightly as possible to create a segmented body. Tie down at the head. Again, a dab of cement if you want.
7. Tie in the peacock herl behind the eye and wrap to create a collar. 6 - 8 turns are plenty. Wrap carefully so the herl stand stands out from the body. Whip finish and cement carefully.

Fly Notes
You can happily vary this pattern. Use different coloured flash for a slightly different effect. Add an optional tuft of marabou tail. Use dubbing instead of herl for a collar. Dubbing may be more natural. Herl is a good attractor.

Fishing Notes
Fish during midge hatches. Can be fished tandem using a dry fly strike indicator. Usually under a midge ball or the like. Alternatively it can be fished nymph style on a long, light tippet. In rivers let it drift. In lakes fish it very slow with frequent pauses.
Targeted species, Trout.

Location Notes

Prey Notes
An attractor style of midge larva.
