Tying Instructions
1) Holding hook point up and shank horizontal, bend one fifth
of hook shank at hook eye upwards.
2) Take a small split shot and squeeze onto hook shank between
hook eye and bend put in to hook in step 1.
3) Flatten out and ensure 2/3's of split shot hangs opposite
of hook point side of hook.
4) Add a little epoxy to contact points along hook shank and
split shot.
5) Set a side to dry, then give a coating of spray can paint,
again allowing time to dry.
6) Add prism eyes and give a couple of coats of clear nail polish,
again allowing time to dry.
7) Lay down a bed of thread, leaving thread at hook bend.
8) Tie in red wool tag.
9) Tie in ribbing material.
10) Dub on flashbou dubbing body (sometimes called sparkleflash
dubbing).
11) This leaves thread directly behind painted head.
12) Tie in your marabou tail at this point only tail should extend
along top of body extending 2/3's hook length past hook bend.
13) Use ribbing to position and hold marabou tail along top of
fly (eventually the bottom due to split shot positioning).
14) Take some rabbit fur off a zonker strip to form collar.
15) Tie off thread and go fishing. |
Fly Notes
This one is just an over sized version
of a UK trout fly. Name a colour you can make a version of it
based of that colour as it's the motion caused by the split shot
head and marabou tail that gets them hungry (or agitated) enough
to strike the fly(lure?)
Can also use if tied with a large enough split shot on a spinner
rod as a jigging lure. |
Fishing Notes
Floating line (long leader), sink tip or intermediate even a
sinking line all can be used. Get fly to bottom and flick along
with pauses between strips.
Target species include, Bream, trevally, flathead - freshwater
on bass, trout(rainbows in particular) and redfin (for the last
two species better in gold/silver based colourings). |
Location Notes
Rocks, weed beds, sand and mud bars, mangroves - almost any structure. |
Prey Notes
Pure attractor pattern - almost a jig/lure. |
