Tying Instructions

- Tie a bed of black thread finishing at the tail of the hook.
- Tie in a small tuff of teased out red wool.
- Tie in 2 peacock herls as thick as you can find.
- Tie in a large hackle for palmering, size does not matter.
- Palmer the large hackle 2/3 of the way to the hook eye and tie off.
- Carefully wind one herl at a time through the palmered hackle, tying off where the palmering finishes.
- Tie in a hackle and finish with a dob of varnish.
- Finish the fly by trimming back all the palmered hackle so fibres only extend a bit out from the peacock herl body, then trim the front hackle making it flat on the top of the fly.
- The finished fly should sit on the table with the hook upturned.

Fly Notes
A tie shown to me by John Rumpf. Caught him the largest fish in the world championships (6 lb) down in Tasmania.

Fishing Notes
Use it on cruising fish polaroided, also works on tailers working the shallows, use with confidence during the dun hatch too.
A touch of gink makes it float all day.
Target species include Trout.

Location Notes
Good all round daytime fly (for Tasmania specifically).

Prey Notes

Beetle.
