Tying Instructions
- Tie a bed of black thread finishing at the tail of the hook.
- Tie in a small tuff of teased out red wool.
- Tie in 2 peacock herls as thick as you can find.
- Tie in a large hackle for palmering, size does not matter.
- Palmer the large hackle 2/3 of the way to the hook eye and
tie off.
- Carefully wind one herl at a time through the palmered hackle,
tying off where the palmering finishes.
- Tie in a hackle and finish with a dob of varnish.
- Finish the fly by trimming back all the palmered hackle so
fibres only extend a bit out from the peacock herl body, then
trim the front hackle making it flat on the top of the fly.
- The finished fly should sit on the table with the hook upturned. |
Fly Notes
A tie shown to me by John Rumpf. Caught
him the largest fish in the world championships (6 lb) down in
Tasmania. |
Fishing Notes
Use it on cruising fish polaroided, also works on tailers working
the shallows, use with confidence during the dun hatch too.
A touch of gink makes it float all day.
Target species include Trout. |
Location Notes
Good all round daytime fly (for Tasmania specifically). |
Prey Notes
Beetle. |
