Water Dragon Popper

Tying Instructions
1) I use purchased popper heads in the appropriate size for the local natural lizard and also the size of the fish and rod.
2) Measure up on the hook where the head will finish. Wrap thread to cover area where head will attach, mark the end then tie in two legs, one either side, then do the same near hook bend for the back pair of legs.
3) Attach zonker to hook securely with a few wraps of thread. Leaving enough of a tail relative to your intended representation.
4) Tie in hackle where head ends then wrap dry fly style to hook bend for the body.
5) Attach head with glue , then-. Paint or colour head as desired.
6) Attach eyes as secure as possible. As they can be rubbed of if not done well.

Fly Notes

Fishing Notes
Leaders need to be the big but variety to turn the fly over as with normal bass fishing, splat the fly down just as a natural lizard would hit the water, leave it to rest a while then the bloop bloop type retrieve, sometimes to really make the fly wiggle across the top quickly a combination of retrieve and side to side rod work gets explosive results.
Target bass on the fly in the upper reaches of a local estuary.

Location Notes
As usual fished around structure ( rocks & logs) close to the banks of rivers or lakes where you would find lizards.

Prey Notes
Represents a lizard.
