White Deceiver
Baitfish Saltwater
Hook : 1/0.
Thread : White flatwaxed nylon.
Head : White thread.
Wing : 6 to 12 white saddle hackles wit a few strands of
silver flashabou/crystal flash each side.
Body : Pearlescent mylar.
Collar : White bucktail. |
 |
Tying Instructions
1) Attach thread. Select 3 or 4 left
bend and right bend white saddle hackles and attach to either
side at hook bend (note: hackles can be tied to splay outwards
giving a seductive kick).
2) Attach pearlescent mylar and wind forward leaving room for
collar.
3) Attach a couple of strands of silver flashabou to each side
and tie in a little pearl crystal flash if desired.
4) The collar is formed in 3 steps. Place a small clump of white
bucktail on the far side, length extending beyond hook and tie
in. Next place an equal size clump on the near side. Finally,
tie in a clump on top to fill out the collar. (note: collar can
be tied very full to make the fly ride high or alternatively
tied sleek enabling the fly to dive deep.
5) Wrap a nice tapered head, whip finish and cement. |
Fly Notes
The white deceiver depicted here is
the original fly developed by Lefty Krey back in the late Fifty's. |
Fishing Notes
I normally use a clear intermediate
sinking line with an appropriate leader to match the fish I'm
chasing. Retrieves would be dependent on the baitfish we're trying
to imitate.
Used in all parts of the globe to catch a wide variety of species. |
Location Notes
Anywhere there are baitfish is the
place to use a Deceiver. It's my favourite pattern for chasing
Australian Salmon off the rocks and wandering along beaches looking
for gutters. |
Prey Notes
General baitfish pattern tied using
various colours /sizes to match local bait. |
