Ever been as frustrated as I have (#!@*[ !!) when chasing Midge feeders? Trout moving everywhere, calmly and casually feeding freely on these tiny creatures, ignoring every fly you throw at them. The Tiers Pattern Comments
1. Grant Marshall Easy Midge Pupa Nice fly from "Australia's best trout flies".
2. Grant Marshall Mad Midge Ball Partner in crime to easy midge pupa - great when fish tandem.
3. Richard Carter Suspender Hatching Midge This recipe is the one by John Goddard, a superb pattern for hatching midges in lakes.
4. Ian Mitchell Black Chironomid Looking for a pattern. If I get desperate I'll tie up my size 20, JR Midge.
5. Ashley Morrow Simple Midge Pupa Another effective pattern when the buggars are tuned into the hatch. I have found this to be successful when dead drifted in ripple with a slight breeze.
6. Ashley Morrow Bloodworm Effective little fly when suspended beneath a midge ball during a hatch, especially on Eucumbene. Also been good when fished deep over weed beds on Lake Otamangakau in N.Z.
7. Kym Goldsworthy Sparkle Midge In the deep end here. Never tied a midge before but I'm willing to give it a shot. Krystal flash and brown mono body with a herl collar. Fingers crossed. Here goes nothing.
8. Bill Rendall Tom Thumb
9. Richard Carter Green Lake Midge (with white gills)
