Match The Hatch - Saltwater Baitfish Fly Swap
The sight of predators charging into baitfish schools & the baitfish inturn jumping clear of the water in groups, tells us immediately there are large, active and hungry predator fish around. These predators include pelagics like mackerel and tuna species, estuary species like bream, trevally and even the odd flathead getting amongst it in the shallows. What this swap is about is match the hatch saltwater style. Not a non-descriptive clouser, whistler or coverall white deceiver, but more a duplicate of a local baitfish. Sign up with your match the hatch SW baitfish.
All participants flies will be judged for the most realistic baitfish pattern and the winning fly awarded a prize of a Spencer saltwater grizzle cape.

The Tiers Pattern Comments
1. Richard Carter Seethru Minnow On arriving in Lake Macquarie the first outing was to find out waht the local baitfish looked like. A scoop net produced a few specimens and then a digital camera gave me a few photographs for later study. After plenty of sketches on printed images of the fish and by combining a couple of fly tying styles this fly was the outcome.
2. Grant Marshall Eyes These translucent little fish seem like big eyes with a tail. In Broken Bay we usually find salmon, tailor and the rest of the gang boiling on these for most of the morning and sometimes all day, when this happens you had better have a good match or frustration will kill you!
