Try rivers around Noojee: Latrobe, Loch and Tooronga. This rivers get fair bit of fishing pressure.
Tarago River is good below reservoir as well as Tanjil above and just bellow
Blue Rock Dam.
Flies at this time of the year are rather basic attractors like Stimulator, Royal Wulff or Kossie dun. Nymphs work well as usual.
Unfortunately season finishes on Queen's Birthday so you left it bit late.
Water gets cold and hatches suffer.
Hope this helps and good luck. |

I have fished down beside power station a few times when working in the area .
There is a stream with a couple of man ,made pools beside the cooling reservoir .
Caught quite a few fish to 1lb and some bigger .Drifting a worm unweighted from tops of pools .
I imagine nymph's would work well this time of year in those small pools .
Worth a look as they have clear banks and would be great to learn the craft in .Plenty of fish in there too !
Hope this helps ,

If you don't mind some bush bushing Tyers and Aberfeldy rivers are worth checking. Upper reaches of Morwell river may interest you but avoid it after wet weather.
To the west you have Macalister (above Lake Glenmaggie) and Wellington rivers which will have less fishing pressure than West Gippsland streams.
I wouldn't rush to fly fish first thing in the morning - its already too cold . In may and early june midday to evening are your best fly fishing time.
Water warms up a bit and you may get odd rise and even small insect hatch.
Hope it helps. |
