G'day Guys

Picked up an older Eagle depth sounder from a mate and found the ducer cable is really long and only need around 2 metres worth,so.

Q: Can I roll up the excess cable together and tuck it away out of sight? or, Can it be cut down and the plug reconnected?.

Just concerned about interference etc.

Thanks in advance

Bruce

I wouldn't be cutting the plug off.
For my personal preference I fold the cable up in a compressed "S"like shape and cable tie or tape the ends of the folds, leaving a decent radius at the ends and just hide it away under gunwales

it's best not to coil the cable up, but rather use a figure 8 pattern and cable tie it.
will get less interference that way.

Well i'm half and half at the moment.

My old mate and I took to the water this morning, bloody cold.

Baits in but where mostly learning about the finder.

Transducer cable rolled as a figure 8 loosely.

Transducer set flush to the bottom of the hull at the centre line and between the strakes to the starboard of the prop around 12 inches, but i'm getting a straight line and blotches on the receiver.

Reset the finder and start again

Cable rolled and sits beside the esky that holds the agm battery in place.

Does the rear of the transducer need to be dropped a couple of degrees?

Or is the battery causing some grief?

Should i chop and re-wire?

Maybe i should do some more study me thinks.

Or do i have more of an issue?

Cheers

I dont think cable length is your problem. Any effects here will only disrupt performance not totally kill it.

I would be looking at tranny angle (rear down) and head unit .

Thanks for the tips guys

Gunna run the cable up the opposite gunwale and see how it goes, also try some fine tuning with the ducer,if that doesn't work she'll be ripped out and tossed to the kerb.
