Yeah some great suggestions here but let's take a breath & go back to the original post - "1-2 mtr waves on PPB."
Sharkcat, Hydrofield, 233?
Really these are offshore boats & PPB does not need a $150G+ offshore boat with 200+hp donk to handle 1-2mtr PPB waves comfortably.
A well built 5.5 to 6.0mtr boat should do the job quite well & wont require 200+hp to take out snapper fishing at P2 or off Frankston.
Really, in PPB anything over 150hp is just wasted donk IMO
Whilst not exactly cheap both the HH585 & Evo 550 are excellent boats for PPB. The HH585R is rated to 200hp (150-175 would be fine) whilst trhe Evo 550 Platinum is rated to 100-150hp. Using something like a 115-150 E-tec or Merc opti would offer reasonably brisk performance in all PPB conditions whilst still being reletively cheap to run (more snapper trips per ltr of fuel).
Another good boat to look at would be the Oceanmaster 540-590 series boats. The 540 is rated to 130hp with the 590 rated to 175hp.
I would also look at a TABs 570 (150 max hp) as well as the Webster Twin Fisher. The 5.2 wqebster is rated to 140hp whilst the 570 is rated to 150hp.Comfortable ride from twin hull, tough ali build, excellent amount of fishing room, single, medium size motor requirement, and reletively cheap purchase price in comparison to a similar size glass boat.
Nothing against those other boats, they're all great beasts, but you dont need a bloody great offshore boat to comfortably fish for snapper, whiting, etc in PPB. If he want's to spend his $$$ on one then great - go for it I reckon, but 1-2mtr PPB chop really aint all that bad.

Bill A.
Engine hp is directly related to the boat it is pushing. Regardless of where you are fishing (unless in a river) you need a suitably sized motor for the boat.
I do completely agree that there is no need for a much bigger offshore capable boat, I was thinking a 600F would be very well suited to this guys needs.
Totally agree with Bill's comments in regards to max boat/motor size for PPB.
I once owned a hh470 with a 90 hp motor, it definately punched above its weight, but became uncomfortable when conditions turned nasty - was a bit smallish.
Last year I upgraded to a new HH560 with a 150 hp motor, this boat size, weight and motor hp adequately handles nasty PPB conditions with comfort and safety. IMO for PPB why go bigger? There is an array of good quality boat/motor manufactures in the 5.5 - 6.0 mtr category to adequalty suit your PPB needs.
Sure, many bigger boats beat me (by a couple of minutes) to the reefs only to catch the same quota of fish!
What was the bad feed back you got about the 233, I have an old restored one and apart from being a pain in ass to tow its a great boat, certainly overkill for ppb but offshore brilliant.
This bloke mentioned it was excellent for going offshore because it was very fast through the ruff water. He would go out 60 - 70km offshore with it and travel at around 40 knots.
It was too unstable to justify its use in the bay. He had another boat for the bay. One that was slow through the ruff water, but didn't rock when fishing.
