No worries Rob,
Always seem to do better on the Albies at Honk Kong and the riggers using Jetstters.
Just my observersation.
Cheers

no ... my opinion re riggers is based off 31 years tuna fishing
anywhere between 12 & 25+ days on them a year ... albeit the 1st 10 years as a kid learning ... i am comfortable in my opinion having never fished with anything else but riggers up till the past 2 season
there is a lot to get right when using & rigging riggers correctly ... that is for a new thread ... but no flex what so ever is the key ingredient
I've fished riggers for 29 of the 31 years ... on reef rigger bases mounted on a hard top frame that were literally a 7-10 second process to load them into action when easing up to troll ... and in the just the past 2 years I made the decision & swung to dumping the 2 riggers & fishing just straight off the rod tip for 4-6 rods and then also have the shot gun rigger for the long lure ... and in my humble opinion, at the end of the day, it doesn't make a difference on the tuna strike rate ... but it certainly reduces "stuff" and a degree of complexity
lure size, variety to find the "killer lure of the day" & the leader is important ... finding the bait & working the patch is the most critical ingredient |

just re-read my post ... flogged the 31 years a bit ?? sorry ?? bit dicky ?
my point being that i myself fished riggers for a long time & wouldn't have it any other way but just recently changed, and find no impact on my results
but i do find it easier & less complicated |

Dump the riggers if that's what works for you Rob.
Me, I like using them.

Riggers all the time.... Always without taglines for tuna using Aftco Roller troller clips.....Hardly ever drop fish.....
Also never pull in more lures than you have to when you hook up..... Amazing how many times you get hit again in the first 100 metres when you strat trolling again...
I am also with Marty on the Albies, Jetsetters way back will go first 9 times out of 10.... In Purple and Black colour..... Red hot... |

yep no tag lines for tuna, i run Reef Rigger bases with Reelax poles and release clips and never miss a hook up on tuna. i see the charters use horitontal rod holders that slide into the rod holder more for ease of use with passengers in the way etc.
not saying its a necessity but just the way we do it.
ps: Rob i haven't been tuna fishing for 30yrs though
also when the small tuna are red hot in close late in the season we can not really bother but mainly still use them. _________________ cheer's

This has turned into an interesting discussion. Just to clarify some things:
Yes I too love the look of riggers set up on the boat and it was a hard decision to leave them at home. I enjoy nothing more than setting up a spread with them. They are new 2 piece Reelax with a custom made easy to set up tag line arrangement. Been through the pain with floppy telescopic units.
Never missed a tuna strike from them. However they are more stuff to carry, wash and protect from damage etc. Caught as many fish off the riggers as off the corners.
Jury is still out on this one. _________________ Cheers,
