At long last the river was suitable in water flow to try the flies out on a few runs .
As expected the #16 brown nymph received the most attention ,though two fish were taken on the dry/emerger happy-fish.gif
28 fush were landed with half a dozen lost off the line which included the first four takers unhappy-fish.gif
The first fish landed warmed up the ol rod nicely .

Most of the better fish were feeding hard on the bottom .

There were more fish than you could shake a gold stick at ,ha ha !

This fish was as black as a Pedder specimen .

5 Atlantics were taken on the nymph though all were small .

The planets have aligned enough for a little fly fishing this arvo happy-fish.gif
The action was slow for about the first ten minutes until i got the depth of my indicator nymph rig set correctly .
A little adjustment was also needed with the flies and it payed off nearly straight away with a very solid hook up down deep .
The fish showed himself with a jump or two before heading into a log jam where i was busted off on the 6.5lb line
Moved on after landing a few fish from that run to find more perfect water for the nymph's .
The fish were really on the go and it didn't take long to bag out multiple times happy-fish.gif

To cut a long story short i encountered another big fish that also busted me off after a ten minute long struggle unhappy-fish.gif
Two fish around the 6lb mark gone ,doh !!!
Feeling a little disapointed in myself i thought i would throw just a few more casts before heading off .
To my surprise i hooked up yet again to another cracking fish that was eventually landed .
Pics don't do them justice :|

The release ...

After having been reved up by that fish i thought finishing off the run may just be worth while .
And it was ! Another nice one ended up on the bank ,lucky to as he did snag me up for a few heart stopping seconds .
Another long fight with the fish using the currents to its favour happy-fish.gif

The release ...

I wonder how long it will be before we get some hot weather and the snow flake caddis start up ???
Can't wait for that :!:

nice photos Dave
snow flake caddis ???? was over on the Turon with plenty of small rainbows rising in the runs on small up wing moth like insects
I'm use too black or gray caddis ,some times red caddis that have a distinctive flight,so would these have been emergers, floating down the runs,an adams 12 ,but the carp like them too confused-fish.gif

They emerge then fly away and come back as spinners laying eggs Muck .
Probably both scenario's going on and they are easy pickings for the trout when emerging in the runs wink-fish.gif
We had a grey dun hatch today but soon it will mainly be the pure white snow flake caddis and the fish go nuts for them happy-fish.gif

The fly was hot all weekend but unfortunately i was only able to squeeze in a quick session yesterday followed by four hours on the water today .
All on the "T" with alot of fish firstly coming from the nymph .
The first session was just below town having only limited time .

Little silver bullet that lived up to his name happy-fish.gif

After an hour or so the fish became suicidal with the dry fly and the odd dun was seen on the wing !
This continued into todays session which was quite pleasing considering the extra wind factor .

Went with a dry only for a while until coming across a nice long gutter with slow even flow .
It took quite a few persistant casts upstream to ensure that i had covered the water thoroughly .
Also making bounce casts to ensure the tungsten nymph fell close to the dry fly allowing it to reach max depth in quick time wink-fish.gif
Persistance payed off as it usually does on the "T" and i was hooked up to a "MUNTER" :!:
Only using a small #16 i instantly knew that a short fight may result and after around one minute of titanic struggle the fish returned down stream where the hook was slightly straightened before pulling clear unhappy-fish.gif
Still managed to snap one pic as he went past rolling and thrashing before holding the bottom and forcing a stale mate .
Thats where he regained some composure ,thrashed the head and we parted company !

Rolling over with his tail in the air as i snapped the only pic .

As they say you can't win them all !

Caught more fish on the same rig when i stumbled across another feeding fish just upstream from the last .
Descent size and landed which put a smile back on the dial happy-fish.gif

The best fish on the bank for the weekend .

Another release Ohappy-fish.gif

Packed up and went home after that for a well deserved drink ,bloody hot here and its 29 degrees here ATM !

More spoils from a quick stop off on a favourite run this arvo .
They have slowed down after a small amount of rain fell this morning though they were there with some extra persistance .

This fish must have been training to be a pilot with the amount of air time he clocked up !

A heavy tungsten bead was exchanged for a lighter brass bead in the shallow front half of the run .

One more chunk before exiting the water .

No lack of fish feeding at the moment though they are a little flighty at best with the low water levels .
Lots of fish to be polaroided and with the warm water they are really firing when hooked !!!
Even the small 1lbers gave me a run ,thus not all were landed busting me off on willows and rocks as they bolted down stream ,or for cover under the overhang .
This fat little unit took me 2 pools down with his gusto so i thought he was worthy of a pic happy-fish.gif

Lots of healthy fish around the 1.5lb were on the go with a few better being tripped up aswell .

A solid fish on happy-fish.gif

One that made it to the bank .
The tail fin was very damaged so he will be easily recognised if caught again wink-fish.gif

Only two on the dry and one and a half dozen on the specialty nymph .
Took a while to find the fish at first but they were stacked up in the heads of the pools ,probably enjoying the oxygenated water

Water is perfecto today and for at least another day aswell happy-fish.gif
Fish were on the chew with many unexpected big boys in the shallows ,feeding hard and taking only one fly inparticular .
The first 20mins seen me fishless until i made the change on the nymph .
First hook up was a cracker but lost when the hook popped free .The next fish was still worthy of a pic being around 2.5lb and deep as an old cellar .

Good fish after good fish ate the secret nymph happy-fish.gif

Another release ...

Another good one landed cool-fish.gif

Thought i was going well until i landed this bruiser ,probably around 4lb or better ...

Then i was not surprised when i landed yet another weapon ...

Nymph shot ...

Just when i thought it was safe to go back in the water i nailed the fish of the day !
Around 5lb or better and fought better than my x missus ,he really knew how to pack a punch ,ha ha !

Plenty of 1lbers aswell with this magical and heavily marked fish being a stand out .
One good looking fish !

Well there goes my mionthly download again laughing-fish.gif
