does anyone know the co-ordinates of the rigs off lakes entrance?

Also on google maps it shows a contour about 80km offshore, is this a shelf drop off?

The rigs are marked on GPS maps and that is the shelf drop off at about 80 kms

That's the craziest looking canyon set up displayed on Google Earth for the whole east coast!! Has anyone had a serious crack at it late in the season when the EAC hits it with warm water and bait fish!! I imagine the upwelling would almost boil on the surface!! Had some great sessions following beakies south to Green cape canyon but always wondered where they went to from there! I'm keen to give it a go off Conran next season!

The mark you showed in the the pic is the Bass Canyons, Therese a few of us in the SGGFC that have been wanting to plan a trip out to there for the last few years, The drop off would be one of the best on the east cost, and Ive been told by some Pro's it hold's fish, Striped marlin and SBT will be there at the right time of the year, The VIC marlin record came not to far from these waters.

Here's an image that would get any fisho's blood pumping. I reckon that Bass Canyon would be a prime place for some deep drop fishing for hapuka and blue eye trevalla. Tuna, marlin and other pelagics would certainly frequent these areas around February, March and April. Sea surface temperature maps would be a good tool to consult if planning a trip as well. Obviously you would require very seaworthy craft with plenty of fuel range to safely get out there and back. Two or more boats travelling together would make sense but I think that getting the right weather window would be the biggest problem........

Years ago I skippered a scallop boat out of lakes and we often fished right up to the shelf at the 'horseshoe' and further east near the Everard Canyon.

when it wasnt scary seas we often would see miles of stripies working out there, never lucky enough to see a marlin. dragged some weird creatures up in the gear at times though.

Did an experimental trip investigating a potential Vic. albacore fishery from lakes as well, 4 days 2 tiny chooks:(

We had most of our success in 2010 around the cobia/mackerel platforms. This year we did a bit more exploring out into the bass canyon and didn't turn a reel in five trips. The problem with the canyons is they are a massive area and I think to try and find the fish you need a number of boats. More the better. The rigs hold bait all the time and you will regularly see seals ballling up bait inside the exclusion zone while trolling around them. Sometimes you can even get a fishing report off them if they've got a keen fisherman manning the radio. I believe the everard canyon is relatively unexplored by gamefisherman but would probably need to be accessed from cape conran.
