hi what snapper fishing outfits were you using and what pound line
Mate I used ugly stick platinum 1-4 kg USP-ESP2130 and they are very soft fishing rod which is perfect when fishing for snapper in the areas with not much current, I use a bigger fishing rod when I am fishing in strong currents, I use 12 pound line and 40 pound leader and small reels to suit too 4/0 hooks give it a go they are lots of fun, hope to see you on the water some time

Hi all Mary Christmas and a Happy New Year
with so many people holidaying and fishing on the Mornington Peninsula in January from the first of January I will be giving three day update, this will include a brief report on what has happened over the last three days, and then the forecast for the next three days Looking Ahead, this will include weather forecasts, where to fish, and more importantly when they are feeding, I will also have video images every three days another first for FISHNET ,.. so let's get stuck into it.
WIND
28/12/2011
South easterly winds 5 to 10 kn at 8 a.m. perfect wind with tide

South easterly winds 10 kn at 18 am perfect winter with tide
30/12/2011.
South easterly winds 5 to 10 kn perfect wind with tide
King George whiting
Try the shallow waters around mud Island and the fort, the bigger fish can be found in close at point Nepean and Rosebud Reef
These guys love feeding on the ebb tide, running out tide
28 /7am-830am 29/ 720am-945am, 30/8am-1030am,31/ 1230pm-1400pm.
Squid
These guys are fantastic eating and one of the best baits you can catch the shallow waters around three to 4 m between Rye and point Nepean where the fish are
28 /7am-830am 29/ 720am-945am, 30/8am-1030am,31/ 1230pm-1400pm.
Flathead
This is definitely the best time of the year on the Mornington peninsula to catch flathead you will be surprised how shallow this can be done, in 1 m of water or less is where the big guys are, on calm sunny days you can actually see them in the water, between Rye and white cliffs, and also around mud Island
it is important to fish the highest level of water of that day28/12/2011, 1625pm. 29/12/2011 6am. 30/12/2011.720am.

I fish Rye pier all the time, biggest one I've seen caught was 65cm. I've heard the big ones are out there but usually at night. The ferris wheel in the background gave it away. I'm jealous !! Onya guys!
Bianca
well the people in their thousands have certainly arrived on the Mornington peninsula and boy have they got some fantastic weather over
the next few days
Snapper
20 m of water off Mount Martha
there are large amount of schools of small Snapper averaging around 2 to 3 kg in this area, quite amazing to arrive at this destination and see all the fish on your screen
Bite times, use squid in small strips

Australian salmon
one of the best light tackle fighting fish we have in Port Phillip Bay, try the rosebud reef,,in the RIP, and Point Nepean, try using small white octopus, with the speed of around 5 to 7 kn
The first hour of the run out Tide is the best time to fish for these species
Gummy sharks
whether it's just for a feed of small Gummy Sharks or to have some fantastic fun and release the BIG females now is the time, this species is the feature in looking ahead

As I type this it is pouring down rain, and we have extremely strong winds. So it’s time to spend some time at pictures with the family, fishing can wait!
The next few days we will have strong winds however there are a couple of locations where you can fish in the strong south-westerly winds - another advantage about holidaying on the Mornington Peninsula!
9/1/2012
WIND/ land based
West south-westerly winds 15 to 20 kn, try Flinders pier it has a vast array of species and it produces its best fishing at the highest tide.
12.53 PM (fishing times)
10/1/2012
WIND / BOAT
South-westerly winds 15kn Point Nepean to Portsea Pier, many species to be caught in these areas.
9.46AM (fishing times)
11/1/2012
Western south-westerly winds to 25 kn extremely strong winds so unless you are desperate do not go out. The winds are predicted to calm down towards the end of the week save your energy and your money till then.
I'll have the latest updates Thursday.
Report
There are some big snapper being caught on the Mornington Peninsula when conditions are right. Try using live baits and fish early mornings for your best results.
This snapper was caught on the 7/1/2012 using live squid.

Well the weather has been absolutely atrocious with strong winds, rain and hail – the good news is that the weather is on the improve and should start coming good by Saturday.
Saturday, January 14th– Snapper
With the strong blow that we have just had one would think that the Snapper would be biting their heads off so with this in mind try 22 to 23 metres off Mt. Martha and use small live Squid as bait.
My Feeding Times 6 am. Run out tide / 1.10 pm. Flood tide
Sunday, January 15th – Scallops
As featured in my video report try Rye 12 to 13 metres. Slack water 7.30 am. and 1.43 pm. Remember never dive alone; always dive with friends and have as many dive flags up as possible, on the boat and in the water.
Monday, January 16th – Sweep
Sweep are a great little fighting fish and are fantastic in the frying pan. They are predicting a 3 foot swell on Monday so try giving them a go along our back beaches. Low water is at 10.30 am. Please remember when fishing off rocks to always face the sea and never turn your back on the water. Try using light fishing gear with small floats such as on Garfish outfits.
Next report up on Monday night (weather and internet permitting!).
