Had my ML in to have the cpu upgraded last week. What a difference!! happy-fish.gif

Figures went from 156kw to 191kw and 510 to 625 newton meters
Acceleration times went from 9 seconds (best) to 7.8 for the 100kph sprint. Pulls like a Mack. not bad for 120k on the clock.

Done by Evolve Technic ( Peter Fitzgerald Racing) in Box Hill.

This is not an aftermarket add in chip but a new cpu program.
Still on the same tank full but seems like a 1/2 liter per 100k better.

Holy crap, impressive figures.

I can only imagine the cost would't be cheap.

$1650, so on par with the piggyback units.
Fuel consumpion appears to be marginally better around town, used to avg: 10.5/11lt p/100k. Last tank 9.9.
Will have to roll up and down the highway to see what it does there.
The torque increase is incredible, goes uphills in a hurry now.

Im missing something. How do you get an increase in power and improved fuel economy?

It is a claim put out by all the chip sellers. At $1650 you'd have to go through a lot of fuel before you got that payment balanced. Extra power is nice.

I wonder about a snorkel and bigger exhaust when the original wears out. Snorkels from $139.

Yeah I'm sceptical about this one too however there may be a possibility.

I drove a chipped version of my Ford Ranger on the weekend. Noticed to hold 100km in my car you really have to be ringing it's neck on the inclines and trying your best to hold the revs down on the flats and downslopes. With the chipped version the whole trip is lightly feathering the accelerator so as not to get caught speeding. The RPMs never go anywhere near my car.

So therefore while the car for the same RPMs may be sucking more juice with a chip, over a journey on average the chipped version never has to reach the same RPMs to maintain same speed.....

Just a theory but feel free to poke holes in it.

Do you have an auto or are you saying you have to change down less when you have the chip?

Better fuel economy is quite possible with a chip, cars from factory are tuned to meet emissions standards like low nox not for power or fuel consumption.

Depending on how the chip is tuned and how its driven will effect the fuel consumption, most people I know get a chip and then make use of the extra power with the same or more right foot, if they drove to get the same performance (speed & acceleration) as before then it probably would use less fuel.

Cheers,

Dave

Just not possible sorry, the amount of rpms required to drive the car along at any given speed (in the same gear) will have to be the same, chipped or not. If you are talking auto then maybe the auto is programmed differently to upshift earlier or hold gears longer before downshifting but at the end of the day, say 100km/h in top gear will need x amount of rpm to enable that, chipped or not, auto OR manual.

Yeah, understand that but I suppose I'm talking about the auto jumping up and down gears less with the chip.

After driving it for a month since the upgrade I can honestly state that it actually uses MORE fuel. Probably something to do with the lunatic driving it, difference is actually negligible?

Anyway I have just got back from my annual Merimbula trip, facts are

1566 kilometers covered,average fuel consumption 13.6lt/100k,
average speed 87kph

The boat (2t) was attached to the car for all but maybe 100k

It accelerated up the hill out of Eden.

As stated in the first post this is NOT a CHIP upgrade it is a full recalibration of the CPU.
Remember that this is a 2007 ML320cdi (3lt). 7 speed auto with over 120k on the ckock, it weighs 2.6ton and it is a fulltime 4wd
around town I'm getting 9.8l/100k, cruising down to Bairnsdale with the CC locked on 104 it was 7,8l/100k.

I'm happy.
