Can’t wait till they start field-testing the new carp virus.
They should start over in Tasmania.
Great to see people working to rid the waters of this filth.

Just like it was a great idea to introduce cane toads and mosquito fish etc. Can we bugger the place up even more? Probably. I worry about the unexpected consequences, you could have something similar to a blackwater event from all the rotting carp in the water. That's if it doesn't jump species.
Doesn't bother me at all from a carp fishing perspective, it's only meant to be 70-80% effective, still will be plenty of carp to catch and the survivors will pack on the pounds with less competition for food. |

Correct me if I am wrong , the " Device " is for Carp coarse Anglers ( ) so that their entire catch can be released ( ) after being assessed , that is weighed or , measured
Should only be available here with high voltage connections and automatic decomposition _________________ An open mind beats an open tackle box |

Hopefully more research gets done these days, the virus is wide spread in some areas overseas and seems species specific. I think they are saying still 5 years off.
99% from what i'm reading.
The post was not put up to "bother you". Honestly dude, get over your-self. _________________ A wake free river for all. |

That's viruses for you only 70-80% effective otherwise the virus would wipe itself out, what's left are the stronger immune fish/animals that thrive with the lack of competition.
Its the unintended consequences that bother me with these things, what if the virus got into a water supply? An example would be Sydney's supplies like Warragamba, Woronora or the back up Prospect, they are all full of Carp, I wouldn't fancy 70 or 80% percent of them all belly up in my drinking water as much as I like Carp.

From what I've read on this virus it works very fast too. The logistics of clearing such a huge mass of dead fish from waterways in a short window of time is a real problem. Smaller waterways would have massive kills of other fish species from so much matter decomposing all at once. |

I agree the cost of the clean up would be astronomical too I'm not sure the government state or federal would have the stomach for that in more than one way, the fact is that you'd more than likely have to repeat the operation periodically as well its not a one hit solution or silver bullet.

Reports are for a kill rate of 99%.
All these things have negative impacts that will need to be looked at.
Luckily there are progressive people out there that want to do everything possible to rid us of this vermin.
Luckily scientist aren't defeatists.

that why we lost most of our native fish
If our fishing media did it job you would know spring vireema , neer whiped out silver perch, but only caused 95% reduction in carp for two years, read up on charles limm of limmology fame and dropsey
then read the Weirmouth labartory report on the susibility of murray cod and silver perch _________________ some days my post get deleted |
